Roger DEAN

Roger was born in Kent, England, in 1944, into an army family with whom he traveled the world. He is now an internationally recognized artist anddesigner whose evocative and visionary images have graced numerous albumcovers and have been realized as architecture.

He studied industrial design at Canterbury College of Art (1961-64), then went on to the Royal College of Art (1964-68). His work was first brought to the public attention in the late 1960's, but he became widely known in the 1970's, due to his fortuitous relationship with the phenomenal British rock group, YES.

Roger created the first visionary album covers images for YES, including the classic logo. The working relationship with the band continues to this day, his distinctive landscape imagery playing a big role in immersing audiences in the visual dimension. Roger also designed numerous concert sets with his brother, Martyn Dean. Says Steve Howe, guitarist for YES, "There is a pretty tight bond between our sound and Roger's art."

Today, his unique style also shines in architectural design, from homes he has created in California, to a marina in Brighton, to a resort town with 6000 units in Portugal's Algavre. His work includes landscape design, conceptual design for theme parks, and 3D environment design for computer entertainment software such as the ongoing Onyx project.

Roger's work has been used, enjoyed, and exhibited the world over. A testament to the interest in and influence of his work is the fact that two previous compilations of his work, Views (1975) and Magnetic Storm (1984) were bestsellers, the former hitting number one on the Times Bestseller List.
